THS Choir kicks off library’s Christmas events

Holly Dorman/Lingle Guide THS Choir sang carols and other festive songs in its annual Christmas performance at the Goshen County Library.

TORRINGTON – On Monday night, music filled the Goshen County Library as the Torrington High School Choir performed.

The kids sang festive classics such as “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Deck the Halls” along with classic carols like “Joy to the World” and “Angels We Have Heard On High”. Some of the boys in the choir swayed back and forth as they sang “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

This year marks Katy Fody’s fifth year as THS Choir Director. She hopes to start a THS tradition of ending every year’s Christmas show with a special arrangement of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which the choir sang to end Monday’s performance at the library.

“It’s nice to do this casual, laid-back carol thing,” Fody said about Monday’s performance. “I think it really is a great way to put everybody in Christmas mode. And we really have some talented kids. It’s fun to take them around town and get to share that joy with them.”

The performance Monday night kicked off a month full of events for the library. Coming up this weekend is the library’s Polar Express party for kids of all ages, complete with hot cocoa, crafts and a story. Later that night, the 21 and older club can get together for cocktails at the library from 5-7 p.m. and enjoy jazz music to go along with their drinks. The morning event is free, but tickets for the evening event are available for purchase at the library before the party or at the door. The evening event is ticketed only to cover the cost of the event.

Later this month, the Goshen County Library will be hosting Wyoming’s own New York Times bestselling author C.J. Box at Eastern Wyoming College. Box has written over 30 novels, including his Joe Pickett series, a series detailing the adventures of justice-seeking game warden Joe Pickett and the crimes he solves. Books will be available for purchase at the event on Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. and Box will be available to sign them.
