A benefit dinner and silent auction is set for Friday, July 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Torrington Elks Club to raise money for medical expenses for 2001 Torrington High School graduate Mike McCommon and family. Funds will cover ongoing treatment, including chemotherapy, physical therapy and possible radiation treatments for a brain tumor, following surgery on June 23. Mexican cuisine for the benefit will be provided by the Correa and Castro families. Cost for the meal will be $10 for adults, $6 for children younger than 12. Donated items for the silent auction include a Big Green Egg smoker/grill and a bistro table and chairs set. The family, pictured left, Mike, Michaelyn, 5, and fiancé Michelle live in Cheyenne. All proceeds of the benefit will go directly to the family.
