Lady Doggers ends season with two wins, top seed for 2A East Regional Tournament
LINGLE – The Lingle-Fort Laramie girls’ basketball team earned a top seed for this weekend’s 2A East Regional Tournament in Sundance with weekend wins over Burns and Pine Bluffs.
On Friday, the Lady Doggers overcame a slow second quarter to defeat the Burns Lady Broncs 43-34.
LFL led 11-8 after one quarter, but Burns held the Lady Doggers to four points in the second quarter. Heading into the locker room at half, the visitors led 19-15.
Lingle returned the favor in the third quarter, holding the Lady Broncs to four points. During that span, the Lady Doggers added 13 points, taking a 28-23 lead into the final quarter.
Over the final eight minutes, LFL pulled away for the nine-point victory.
Junior Natalie Speckner led the team with a double-double. She tallied 14 points and 14 rebounds to go along with seven steals. Freshman Skyla Wunder added eight points and five steals, while senior Kamryn Rafferty tossed in seven points.
The next day, the Lady Doggers wrapped up their regular season with a 51-34 road win in Pine Bluffs.
LFL poured in 22 points in the opening quarter, leading 22-17, but for the second straight game, the Lady Doggers scored four points in the second quarter.
Trailing 29-26 at halftime, the Lingle defense held the Lady Hornets to five points over the final 16 minutes of the game en route to the 17-point victory.
Junior Baylee Skinner led the team with 15 points, while Wunder and senior Ashlee Hattan added 14 points each. Wunder also tallied a team-high seven steals, while Speckner grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Lady Doggers (15-7) opened the regional tournament on Thursday against Big Horn. A win would pit LFL against the winner of Tongue River and Burns at 5:30 p.m. Friday, but with a loss, they would play the loser at 10:30 a.m.
