LINGLE – The last two times out, the Lingle-Fort Laramie High School boys’ basketball team experienced mixed results.
On Friday, the Doggers defeated the Guernsey-Sunrise Vikings 49-32, but on Tuesday evening, L-FL fell to Morrill, Neb. 51-30.
In the victory, three Doggers scored in double figures with sophomore Corey Duchneaux leading the way with 12 points. Senior Cooper Hill added 11, and senior Ty Prall had 10.
On Tuesday, the Doggers looked to carry the momentum over from the victory, grabbing a 15-3 lead less than five minutes into the game, including the first seven points of the game.
But that’s when Morrill started chipping away at the deficit.
With 2:08 left before halftime, the visiting Lions trimmed the Dogger lead to 19-15.
A minute later Duchneaux’s bucket pushed the Lingle lead back to six, but the score also proved to be the final Dogger score for nearly an 11-minute stretch.
By the time the game reached halftime, the L-FL was down to 21-20, and in the opening seconds of the third quarter, the Lions drained a 3-pointer to take their first lead of the game.
In the third, Morrill outscored Lingle 19-0 and didn’t allow the Doggers to score again until senior Hunter Hattan knocked down a triple from the corner with 5:51 remaining in the game.
In between the two L-FL scores, Morrill had gone on a 24-0 run, taking a 39-24 lead.
Over the final five-plus minutes, the Doggers only got an additional six points to close out the game.
Hill led the Doggers with 11 points, while senior Cordell Forkner tossed in eight. Hattan had five.
The Doggers (3-7) travel to Glenrock (1-8) on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest and hosts Pine Bluffs (4-6) on Saturday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
