L-FL boys fifth, girls eighth at state track and field meet

Hill wins Doggers' lone title

CASPER – The Lingle-Fort Laramie boys’ track and field team finished fifth at the state meet at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper over the weekend.

The Doggers were led by senior Cooper Hill and junior Kyland Fuller who both brought home a trio of top five finishes.

Hill won the team’s lone individual state title with a leap of 20 feet, 10 inches to win long jump.

The senior also scored third place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dash finals in 11.86 and 24.72 seconds, respectively.

Meanwhile, Fuller finished fourth in the 200 in 24.39 seconds, while placing second in the 400 and 800. In the 800, Fuller was beaten in a photo finish by Cokeville’s Ethan Bird. The two were separated by a mere .08 of a second – 2 minutes, 01.08 seconds to a 2:01.16.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Nolan Spears, Wyatt Sylvester, Cooper Hill and Kyland Fuller also finished in the runner-up spot in 3:41.22.

The sprint medley relay team of Quirt Lee, Corey Ducheneaux, Myles Wilson and Spears finished fifth in 4:09.67, while the 4x800 team of Sylvester, Kyle Gutierrez, Remington Bremer and Dustin Swartwood placed eighth in 10:16.95.

In the distance events, Wilson placed fifth in the 3,200 in 10:57.17, and the freshman placed 10th in the 1,600 in 5:13.16.

Sylvester scored the only other points for the Doggers with a fifth-place finish in pole vault, clearing 9-6, while Ducheneaux missed out on a medal in high jump at a height of 5-4 to finish tied for ninth.

As a team, the Doggers finished fifth with 64 points. Burlington won the team title with 110 points, while Cokeville was second with 108.

In the girls’ division, the Lady Doggers had a trio of third place finishes to lead the team over the weekend.

Freshman Izzy Spears placed third in discus with a toss of 89-5.

The sprint medley relay and sophomore Emma Walker also scored third-place finishes for the Lady Doggers.

The relay team of Ashlee Hattan, Walker, Maddy Saul and Holly Leiseth came home third in 4:51.87, while the 4x100 team of Saul, Walker, Hattan and Abigail Frederick placed fourth. The 4x400 team of Hattan, Frederick, Leiseth and Josie Houk finished seventh, while the 4x800 team of Maddie Heilbrun, Hailey Smith, Spears and Leiseth placed sixth.

Meanwhile, Walker finished third in the 100-meter hurdle race in 18.04. Walker also finished sixth in the 300 hurdle finals.

Saul also scored points for the Lady Doggers in the dashes, finishing sixth in the 200 and seventh in the 100.

In the two-mile run, Leiseth placed eighth, while Maddie Heilbrun also placed eighth in high jump.

The Lady Doggers finished the three-day weekend with 38 points to finish eighth. Cokeville won the team title with 115 points, while Southeast was second with 91.
