Mark Estes, who is in the process of building a cobb home between Torrington and Lingle, speaks at Lingle-Fort Laramie Elementary

Mark Estes, who is in the process of building a cobb home between Torrington and Lingle, speaks at Lingle-Fort Laramie Elementary on Friday as part of the school’s reading rewards program. Cobb is made of sand, straw, and clay, and the Estes family – including wife, Erin, and sons, Paul and Abel – have worked nearly two years to construct the home, with the help of family and friends. In addition to cobb, the house features a tree retrieved from an irrigation ditch as its center post, and more than 300 sandbags around the perimeter of the home. Estes handed out balls of the material to each class, and promised to collect and use them in the home.
