Fort Laramie Community Church hosts children’s event

Alex Hargrave/Lingle Guide Sunday School teacher Julianne Rogers led young parishioners of the Fort Laramie Community Church in stories, games and snacks on June 10.

FORT LARAMIE – With the cancellation of this summer’s vacation Bible school due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Fort Laramie Community Church wanted to find a way to keep children engaged with their faith.

Under the leadership of Sunday school teacher Julianne Rogers, roughly nine children gathered in North Park, located across the street from the church, for stories, games and snacks on June 10.

Fort Laramie Community Church was closed due to the coronavirus until three Sundays ago, Rogers said, so their goal was to “get kids back in the swing of things.”

“Our regular vacation Bible school has been canceled, so we didn’t want to just shut off the community for the summer,” Rogers said.

“We wanted to give them a lesson about God and have a little fun,” said Sharon Leon of Fort Laramie Community Church.

Rogers said they plan to hold a children’s event at least once per month. Community members can look for flyers on social media and around town.

“I love the kids in this community,” Rogers said. “We have great families and we like to do stuff like this for the town.”
