Doggers split with Pine Bluffs, Glenrock

LINGLE – A big third quarter by the visiting Pine Bluffs Hornets propelled them to a 67-33 win over the Lingle-Fort Laramie High School boys’ basketball team to cap off a weekend split on Saturday afternoon.

The day before, the Doggers knocked off the Glenrock Herders, 68-52.

L-FL had four players in double-figures, including two with double-doubles.

Senior Bailey Powell led the team with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Caeden Riley added 18 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Cooper Hill had 11 points, and senior Gage Correa tossed in 10.

In the win, the Doggers overcame an early 10-8 first-quarter deficit, outscoring the Herders 60-42 over the final three frames.

Lingle capped off the win by pouring 26 points through the net over the final eight minutes.

On Saturday, the Doggers jumped out to a 7-3 lead behind buckets from junior Cordell Forkner, Powell and Hill.

It also proved to be the largest lead of the first half until Pine Bluffs ended the half on a 6-0 spurt, including a buzzer-beating three at the half to go up 28-19.

Coming out of the break, it took the Doggers nearly five minutes before they scored another field goal.

By that point, Pine Bluffs had pushed its lead to 36-20.

In all, Lingle scored only 14 points in the second half, while Pine Bluffs ended any hopes of the Doggers completing the weekend sweep with a 28-point fourth quarter.

Forkner led the team with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Riley added nine.

The Doggers (10-5) stay within the Class 2A ranks this week, playing Southeast on Thursday and Niobrara County on Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
